SDCC 2013: Avengers 2 Plot and Title revealed

Marvel blew our minds this San Diego Comic Con 2013, not with the hopeful confirmation of rumored Phase Three Movies Black Panther and Doctor Strange but instead with the main focus of the Avengers sequel coming to theatres in the summer of 2015.

Thanos being teased to us in the ending of first film had us all at the edge of our seats and clamoring making theories to why he'd show and how he'd literally murder everyone, well the mass murder is right since it wont be Thanos our heroes will be facing off against instead it's going with the Age of Ultron story and using the evil Terminator-esque robot as the baddie this time around.

Not to be based on the recent Age of Ultron story it's going to be tweaked and reworked, With Ant-Man coming to Marvel's Phase Three I already know what you're thinking "With his movie coming and he's not in this what's the point MrDarkPhoenix?" Well Ultron is going to have a different origin this time around and to compensate for that our favorite Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. is going to be responsible for his origins and creation... Thanks a lot for dooming us Tony!

This storyline has been used as a means of Tony Stark creating Ultron or even being manipulated for several reasons:

  1. A highly intelligent replacement for the Avengers when they retire.
  2. J.A.R.V.I.S. becomes more intelligent as being seen to operate a suit on his own in Iron Man 3 and so he's angry in the destruction of the suits and feels he's not wanted or needed.
  3. Tony Stark always delves his mind to dark places in the tech world to stay on top or challenge himself, this time he may have gone to far?
  4. Anyone else think he's simply not just taking a vacation? He could have a fail safe of armors that he hasn't told anyone about, which leads to J.A.R.V.I.S. reactivating them and gaining more intelligence.. possible S.H.I.E.L.D. reference since he would need Nick Fury or Maria Hill nukes and possibly give us an answer to whether Tony was able to fully gain the secrets of the helicarrier and S.H.I.E.L.D
This storyline for the sequel breathes so many questions but let's hear from you guys! @MrDarkPhoenix is my twitter!

SDCC 2013: Harley Quinn gets solo comic series

If you're like many comic book fans this long 10yr wait since Harley graced her own comic book is a long wait and now it's been confirmed we wait no longer! Mistah J's own clown princess is getting her own monthly series in the new 52 co-writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner, along with an unknown artist, will be putting Harleen Quinzel in the spotlight in a new ongoing series.

"We took a good long look at the New 52 version and then applied it to what we were going to do in the series. Harley is a complex character and we are going to build on her background, motivations and her home and supporting cast. Sort of what we did with Power Girl but with a mix of a bit more homicidal maniac added in."

Conner added,

"We want to put her in a new surroundings, with new people, and see how she behaves in that environment. Is she going to try to keep it together, or is she just going to cut loose and introduce her new world to the Harley brand of crazy?"

But what about Mistah J your wondering? Bat-Family guests? Guest stars in general can all be answered with these quotes:

"The Joker is someone that she'll never be able to shake, nor is she really going to want to. Their relationship is a lot of what defines her now, although she is going to get into a lot of stuff where it has nothing to do with him. But that will always be looming in the background. She'll have some serious ex-boyfriend issues."
"I always think its a bit of a weakness to start pouring guest stars in every issue out of the gate, but she does play in a very colorful world," said Palmiotti. "In this series, we are moving Harley out of Gotham to a place that makes sense for her. Gotham will always be a part of her adventures, but we've got some madness up our sleeves.

SDCC 2013: Lara Croft's Tomb is explored by a Dark Horse

Darkhorse Comics in all it's awesome glory is the best when it comes to video game comic book adaptations: Dragon Age, Darksiders II, The Last of Us, and even Prototype 2 are among a lot of great comics and now it'll add the Square Enix reboot of Tomb Raider to it's list. While no news of a video game based sequel a comic book is just as great because it gives the opportunity to explore character development deeper and faster and explore newer locations and possible sequel elements.

Whose writing the series your asking? None other than the talented Gail Simone! The genius writer behind Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey, Batgirl and the new adaptation Red Sonja. Taking place weeks after the end of the game, Gail Simone has quoted she wants to take a look at Lara and her globetrotting adventures which weren't explored in previous titles:

"I chose to do this series solely because I loved the game so much, so we’re definitely keeping the tone of the game. I’ve always loved the classic, cool Lara Croft, but this feels like her origin story, like we’re seeing her before she becomes the icon, and it’s very compelling to me." She continued, "The storytelling in the game hooked me instantly. The biggest difference is, the game told a claustrophobic story in an isolated setting. We are going globetrotting."

When talking about her personality Simone also had this to say..

"The way I see Lara now is, she’s not after treasure. She’s not really after thrills. She’s a questioner, she’s an explorer. She wants answers. The thing is, she’s completely unstoppable. That’s what I love. Everyone underestimates her, and that is a terrible mistake to make."
No artist has been confirmed yet, and of course you guys know I'll keep you inside the loop but Tomb Raider #1 is scheduled for release on February 26, 2014.

SDCC 2013: Nightcrawler is back everyone!

Our favorite teleporting X-Beast Nightcrawler has been dead for a minute and some time but Marvel is bringing back the blue swordsman in a new  X-Men story. Being dead since X-men: Second Coming it's not as easy as being resurrected with a Monster Reborn, Phoenix Down or a Rescue, No Wolverine and a team of X-Men which consists of Storm, Iceman, Beast, and holy crap yes that's Firestar!

This team with Wolverine is going to have to have their work cut our for them because it's going to be a lot more than a simple rescue mission, All across the planes of the dead and the living this team is going to have more than they bargained for when Nightcrawler's Red teleporting father Azazel comes into the picture.

As you can see "Like father, like son" plays a lot into this Azazel is now seen as a sword wielding pirate of the... underworld... Cervantes much? Or a Edward Conway and Hellboy mix? Flying pirate ships, undead warriors through the bloody rivers and blissful encounters will see that even if you're dead and coming back its a pain than just being dead in the first place, artist Ed McGuinness will be joining the team for this amazing series this fall.

SDCC 2013: Go go Power Rangers... Comic

Let's Go go to the comic book store you Mighty Morphing Power Rangers fans! It's been 20 epic years since the Mighty Morphers were a large part of our childhoods and it's publisher Papercutz has heard our suggestions and begging for a comic series and has announced a comic book that will feature our original cast of the power rangers so

  1. Zach - Black Ranger
  2. Kimberly - Pink Ranger
  3. Billy - Blue Ranger
  4. Trini - Yellow Ranger
  5. Jason - Red Ranger
  6. Tommy - White Ranger
All reunited in a lost episode graphic novel format, the first volume will take place during the period of time before Tommy aka Jason David Frank was the green ranger and the arrival of Lord Zedd (Take into account these are probably fan service issues so no nerdy corrections here.)

This first volume will be written by Stefan Petrucha and illustrated by PH Marcondes, and is slated to be released in May 2014.

SDCC 2013: Worlds Finest is a cinema reality

The day we've all been dreaming about as comic nerds is finally upon us! Superman and Batman will be on the big screen together in the movie adaptation of Worlds Finest! Hitting theaters in 2015 (To contend with Avengers 2 obviously) Warner Bros. surprised a room of roaring fans with a surprise and only showing the logo the room blew up with excitement.

Henry Cavill will be reprising his role as the Man of Steel which is obvious but what about the role of Batman? Hopefully not Joseph-Gordon Levitt my pick would be Matt Boomer, My cast of a new Batman movie .

What do you guys think of the collaboration of our treasured heroes? Who do you think they can use as villains?

SDCC 2013: Copperhead slithers as new Arkham Origins Assassin

San Diego Comic Con 2013 gave us the newest assassin... a gender bending Copperhead cosplayer!!... No but really it's a change from the snake head on his head to a sexy snake like woman who adds the woman's touch to a world of male assassins which is a good touch, speaking of touch she's a snake right? So you already know what that means? Batman's getting poisoned.. I'd say again but this is the first time technically so that gives us a time to rush to an antidote.

What you're seeing in the trailer, according to Warner Bros. Montreal Creative Director Eric Holmes, is the culmination of a stunt woman, a Cirque du Soleil performer, and a martial artist, combining efforts to capture Copperheads's slithering, snake motions. This is even more respect and props that they want to create something unique that requires so much effort.

Can't wait to get my hands on her... to fight her of course! And to make it so much more hype let's hope she'll be a challenge map character! She'd be a blast to take on thugs and her combos are endless and very fluent!
