SDCC 2013: Lara Croft's Tomb is explored by a Dark Horse

Darkhorse Comics in all it's awesome glory is the best when it comes to video game comic book adaptations: Dragon Age, Darksiders II, The Last of Us, and even Prototype 2 are among a lot of great comics and now it'll add the Square Enix reboot of Tomb Raider to it's list. While no news of a video game based sequel a comic book is just as great because it gives the opportunity to explore character development deeper and faster and explore newer locations and possible sequel elements.

Whose writing the series your asking? None other than the talented Gail Simone! The genius writer behind Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey, Batgirl and the new adaptation Red Sonja. Taking place weeks after the end of the game, Gail Simone has quoted she wants to take a look at Lara and her globetrotting adventures which weren't explored in previous titles:

"I chose to do this series solely because I loved the game so much, so we’re definitely keeping the tone of the game. I’ve always loved the classic, cool Lara Croft, but this feels like her origin story, like we’re seeing her before she becomes the icon, and it’s very compelling to me." She continued, "The storytelling in the game hooked me instantly. The biggest difference is, the game told a claustrophobic story in an isolated setting. We are going globetrotting."

When talking about her personality Simone also had this to say..

"The way I see Lara now is, she’s not after treasure. She’s not really after thrills. She’s a questioner, she’s an explorer. She wants answers. The thing is, she’s completely unstoppable. That’s what I love. Everyone underestimates her, and that is a terrible mistake to make."
No artist has been confirmed yet, and of course you guys know I'll keep you inside the loop but Tomb Raider #1 is scheduled for release on February 26, 2014.
